Dianna’s Playlist

Dianna’s playlist often intertwines with Roland’s so I had to go back to my previous post to make sure I didn’t accidentally repost the same songs. I think I’ve managed to avoid that…and so, here are a handful of songs off Dianna’s playlist!

Never Mine is a song written and performed by my friend Mary-Kate Edwards. It’s one of my favourites of hers and I absolutely adore listening to it, along with the rest of her album when I’m writing.

I’m so excited about the scenes I’ve written to these songs in book two! Especially in the cases where the songs overlap between Roland and Dianna.

I also can’t wait to introduce the handful of new characters to you all…hehe!

Chill Vibes Playlist: OC Edition

Today’s task is to create a chill vibes playlist inspired by the characters in my novel. I’ve decided to pick 1 song per my main cast of characters. I’ll also do little introductory posts for each of them as well. I hope I pick songs that they’d enjoy haha!

Song #1: Dance With Me

This first song is for Dianna. I can picture her dancing and singing to it secretly when no one else is around haha.

Song #2: Falling in Love at a Coffee Shop

This song is really sweet. I have it on a playlist for either Lawrence or Wendy. It reminds me of how they met. Backstory stuff…but it really captures them well.

Song# 3: 4/4

This song makes me think of Roland. It just seems like something he’d start singing to himself while brushing his teeth or something.

Song #4: My Best Friend

This song reminds me of Nicholas. I already have it on one or two of his playlists.

Song#5: I Love My Boyfriend

This song is for Rose haha. If you watched my drawing reel on Instagram, you’ll hear another song by Princess Chelsea from the picture of Rose with her brother’s picking pumpkin.

Song# 6: Try to Change

This song is for Darius. He’s surprisingly got a lot of really chill songs on his playlist. I was shocked. I expected more chill vibes from some of my other character’s.

Song #7: Telling Lies

This songs on Kurtis’ playlist. It’s not exactly chill…but it’s not exactly not chill? I think this is the most chill Kurtis is gonna get haha.

I’ve been struggling to find a good song for Peter. His playlist has no chill. All party songs. If you’re having a party in the future, hit him up.

Song #8: Beautiful People Beautiful Problems

This song is on Eloise’s playlist.

I’m starting to realize that a lot of my character’s have no chill. They need to get whelmed and feel the aster (if you get that reference, you’re now one of my favourite people!).

What song’s do you like to listen to when you’re just hanging out?

Raising the Stakes

I’ve been working on a lot of other projects, so my editing had to take a backseat for almost all of August while I adjusted to my new schedule.

However, during my break period I’ve been playing around with a particular scene in my head, trying to see what I could do with it to really raise the stakes.

This may sound a bit silly to a handful of you reading this but my burst of inspiration came while watching cartoons. I kept thinking to myself while watching Miraculous Ladybug and Young Justice (I’m a sucker for superheros), how excellent the writing of the shows were. Especially in the case with Miraculous.

I’m on the edge of my seat (as an adult viewer), wondering what’s going to happen next. Im scared for them. Will they lose their miraculous this time? Will Hawkmoth finally win? Will they find out each others secret identities?

This is what I want to create for my readers someday. I want them to think “I need to know what happens next!” That anticipation and excitement is what makes stories so fun.

So, in regards to this particular scene it finally hit me that, in order to make sure that I actually accomplish this, I need to instill that same emotion in both myself and my characters.

Honestly, I don’t know what it is about this one scene that has made it so difficult these past few months, but I’m ready to tackle it.

Of course, I’m also being mindful of my other obligations (recordings, auditions, part-time job etc). Sometimes I wonder if I should get a t-shirt that lists what it is I do. I have a hard time explaining it to people.

I know I also promised to record this last edit, and I will…but I have misplaced my tripod at the moment so fingers crossed I can find it.

This is the final song on my character D’s playlist. I honestly love this song so much, I taught myself how to play it on guitar. It also ends up on my Instagram stories…often. It’s just pretty. I think I instantly fall for songs that remind me of my character’s or certain scenes. This song makes me think about D and R’s relationship both past and present.

Maybe I’ll post a cover of this on my YouTube channel later this month. When I have time to record it haha. I’ve got about 4 things to record tomorrow morning before I go to work. Still adjusting to this new schedule but I am glad to be working again after such a long time.

I’m also aware that I haven’t done an official AuthorTube video yet. I tried recording it twice now haha. I just didn’t like how it turned out, so I’m going to try again sometime in the near future as well. I think I’ll feel better about it once I finish this round of edits and pass them on to my editor.

Character Collage #6

Wonderwall by Oasis is this characters cheer up song, however I think the song Tomorrow Never Came suits her collage and her current state in my WIP a lot better.

Throughout the series, she is constantly trying to discover who she is and who she wants to become.

She’s afraid of losing her brothers, because they’re the only family she feels close to. Being separated from her younger brother is especially hard on her, because she’s always looked out for him and without her around, she fears something terrible will happen to him.

She can’t understand why her family continues to fall apart, and often has nightmares because of it.
